The contract includes the design, construction and financing of a 42-km motorway and the subsequent operation of 74 km of motorway, consisting of the new section and an existing 32-km section.

The A-30 motorway has several unique elements; the tunnel under the Soulanges Canal and two major bridges, the bridge over Saint Lawrence River, measuring 1,860 metres long and the bridge over the Beauharnois Canal, measuring 2,550 metres long.

The latter holds two world records: the longest incrementally launched bridge and the longest cantilever bridge in North America 18,900 direct and indirect jobs have been created over the duration of the completion of the works.

AIM

To bypass Montreal’s metropolitan area, thus reducing the flow of vehicles crossing the island where the second most densely populated city in Canada is located.

MILESTONE

Bridge over the Beauharnois Canal measuring 2,550 metres long, the longest cantilever bridge in North America.

It has also been awarded the following prizes:

Design award for steel construction. Bridges Category awarded by the Canadian Institute of steel construction to the Beauharnois Canal Bridge project.
Armatura 2013, awarded by the Institute of corrugated steel of Quebec (IAAQ) under the patronage of ArcelorMittal.
Best bridge 2013, awarded by the Scientific and Technical Structural Concrete Association (ACHE) to the Beauharnois Canal Bridge.
Agustin de Betancourt Award for best international public works in 2015, awarded by the College of Civil Engineering, Channels and Ports of Madrid and the Fundación Caminos.
