Wroclaw stadiumACCIONA has won a contract - through its Polish subsidiary Mostostal Warszawa - to build the 40,000-capacity Wroclaw (Poland) municipal stadium, one of several new similar installations built for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, which will be hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine. The contract is worth 730 million zlotys (around 170 million euros) and, apart from Mostostal, the winning consortium includes Mostostal's subsidiary Wrobis, Greece's J&P Ajax and design firm MCD.

The stadium will have a stand-out construction feature: a steel-ring mesh surrounding the whole exterior, which will give the stadium a light and translucent look. Thanks to the technology and materials used for the mesh -Teflon-coated glass fibre- the stadium can be illuminated in a variety of ways, which means that it can be used for events other than football, such as rock concerts and other shows.

Wroclaw stadium's cutting-edge design turned out to be one of the most attractive elements of the project put forward by ACCIONA. The idea is to turn this European Football Championship venue into an iconic feature of the city's urban landscape.

A long track record in Poland

Poland is one of ACCIONA's strategic markets within its internationalization process. In this country, the company has an important presence and a country manager, Jaroslaw Popiolek, who coordinates the business opportunities and operations.

ACCIONA has been operating in construction in Poland since 1999, through its local subsidiary Mostostal Warszawa. The company specialises in bridges, public works and building and is one of the country's leading construction groups. Occasionally it teams up with ACCIONA Infrastructure to undertake projects. Its track record includes high-profile projects such as the Siekerkowski cable-stayed bridge over the Vistula, in Warsaw, or the Wolin circular road. Current work includes three stations and two tunnels in the Warsaw Metro network, a 15.7 kilometre stretch of the Nº7 national highway (Jedlinsk-Bialobrzegi) and the new bridge spanning the Odra river, which will rank among the world's ten largest concrete cable-stayed bridges.

ACCIONA Real Estate, for its part, has been operating in Poland since 2004 and opened its Warsaw branch in December of the same year. In 2005, ACCIONA acquired Mostostal Invest to strengthen its real estate business in Poland. Since then, the company has been carrying out its real estate business (residential and office space) in the Polish market under the brand ACCIONA Nieruchomoski. At present, ACCIONA Real Estate has over 3,500 residential units at varying stages of development and is the Polish residential market's number one promoter.
